Monograph 1:
What Witchcraft & Paganism
Can Do For You.
|
|
|
|
Let me begin by
stating that by following this path and applying these
principals in your life you really can live a better life. So why are so many witches poor?
Unfortunately there is a common belief in society, probably
started by the Christian church, that poverty is holy and this
idea had found its insidious way into our traditions too. Let me
say, right from the start, that this is a con trick. Has
there ever been a poor pope? A poor cardinal? No of course
not. There are two types of wealth, absolute wealth and
relative wealth. |
|
|
|
Relative Wealth:
The greedy and unenlightened want to have more than everyone
else. To them, being rich is not enough, they want people to
admire them and respect them for being wealthy. So to
maintain their position of being relatively wealthy they need to
keep everyone else relatively poor. They need to maintain
the differentials. This group of people have discovered the key
to getting what they want and they have kept it a closely
guarded secret in order to protect their dominance. They tell
the poor that they must stay poor, that its more spiritual to be
poor, that they must suffer to learn, and all the rest of the
misinformation and propaganda that they spread. |
|
|
|
Absolute Wealth is
a different thing altogether. When you have absolute
wealth you don't care if other people have more than you because
you know that their wealth in no way diminishes your own. On
the contrary, the richer your neighbours are the better your
neighbourhood, the better your environment. What's the use
of having a mansion in a slum area? You want everyone else to be
rich too. You want the things you want and you set goals and
achieve those ambitions. You don't feel guilty because you
don't believe the propaganda. Whatever you have you are
perfectly happy for everyone else to have as well. You want
people to admire and respect you for the good you do in the
world, for what you contribute to society, not for what you take
out. Like the Relatively Wealthy you have discovered the
key to success but you want to share that knowledge so others
can benefit from it too. |
|
|
|
It is
Absolute
Wealth that I will teach you in this course. Of course wealth is
not just about material things. Following this course will
lead you to spiritual wealth and emotional wealth too.
Trust me, there is nothing unholy about being rich. If you
have any doubts, ask the Pope! |
|
|
|
|
|
|
So let's consider
just what Wicca & Paganism are! Over the centuries the
Christians have used the word "pagan" in the same way that Jews
use the word "gentile"; to mean everybody else. This is highly
misleading because only a tiny minority of non-Christians are
actually Pagans. A Pagan is a follower of one of the many nature
and fertility religions which exist or have existed worldwide.
|
|
|
|
As soon as I typed
the word "religion" I could hear in my mind the sound of you
groaning! But please stay with me. I am not talking of modern
toothless religions, I am speaking of religions of great power!
And you can learn to use that power in your everyday lives.
|
|
|
|
All religions
worship the same god although they may call God by different
names. We Pagans worship the same One God as everybody else.
This is a very important idea, especially in the early 21st.
century with the current upsurge of violent Muslim
Fundamentalism. Al-Qaeda want to convert the world to Islam by
force. They do not see the wisdom that all roads lead to the
centre. The litmus test for all true spirituality is tolerance
of other ways. Let us all pray that the God who is above all
earthly religions will save us from religious fanatics! Help us spread this
PRAYER FOR PEACE |
|
|
|
As Pagans, we like to subdivide this
one Godhead into a number of specific Gods and Goddesses, each
showing a different face or aspect of the One God. This is for
easy reference and convenience, after all 'God' is a huge concept
for the frail human mind to comprehend all in one lump. I will
speak more about this in a later monograph. Pagans seek God by
attuning with the elements of creation - Nature. |
|
|
|
Witchcraft is one of the Pagan
religions. Modern Witchcraft is more properly referred to as
Wicca, and the followers of Wicca, both male and female, are
witches. The word "warlock" does not mean a male witch. In fact
the origin of this word is obscure and was probably a derogatory
term meaning "oath breaker", something that no real witch
could ever
do! |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Witchcraft and Paganism are not:
an easy option a way out of hard work Devil worship a get
rich quick scheme a way to impress a way to get power over
others a way to harm others
|
|
|
|
Witchcraft and Paganism are:
religions (Wicca is one of the Pagan
religions). philosophies of life. ways of making sense of the
world. a way to gain power within your own life. a road to self
mastery.
|
|
|
|
Witches
& other Pagans do:
attune with Nature's cycles. attune with the
Moon's cycles attune with the power of the Sun attune into
themselves examine and change themselves live harmoniously with
nature, our home planet, and the universe find the Godhead alive within themselves.
|
|
|
|
Witches
& other Pagans are:
men and women who like to worship the God and
Goddess, working either together or alone. raise power by singing, dancing,
chanting, drumming, meditating etc. use this power for healing and to cast spells
(prayers) for good and wholesome purposes eat, drink and make merry
in the worship of their deities and in the celebration of
life!
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
So how did Paganism begin? Of course
nobody knows for certain but the answer clearly lies in our far distant
past. Just imagine early men and women, starting to become consciously
aware of themselves and their environment. Imagine them looking up at the
night sky and feeling awe. Imagine them realising that the herds they
hunted moved in seasonal cycles and reasoning that these very seasons were
the givers and takers of all that was good. It must have been a short jump
for them to start praying to the Earth Mother and the Sky
Father. |
|
|
|
What is magic? Is it real?
These are all good questions, I am glad you asked. Magic works
through the The
Law of Attraction, sometimes called the Law of Intent or the Law of Mind.
This is a
natural, universal law. Basically is says that whatever dominant thoughts
we hold in our minds must, sooner or latter, manifest in our lives. The
law is as old as time, like all natural laws it came into being at the beginning
of the universe, with the big bang. What use is it to you? That's entirely
up to you. If you learn how to use this law properly it can bring you
everything you desire. Hopefully you will desire spiritual growth and
attunement. |
|
|
|
So is the Law of Attraction and magic the same thing? Well, yes and no.
It really depends on how you use the word 'magic'. Most modern Law of Attraction
gurus would say "no, the Law of Attraction is not magic, it is a natural law".
I would say that their answer indicates that they don't know what magic is, they
don't know what the word means. There are lots of natural laws, the Law of
Gravity, Boyles Law, The Second Law of Thermodynamics and The Law of Attraction
being just a few. A much older name of The Law of Attraction is 'magic',
sometimes spelt 'magick' to distinguish it from stage magic.
Aleister
Crowley defined magic as "the science and art of causing change to occur in
conformity with the will". That would also be a very good definition of
the Law of Attraction if you ask me. |
|
|
|
So you can call it Magick or the Law of Attraction or whatever
you like but how does it work? Well there seems to be two quite different
things going on here. The first explanation, which may possibly account
for part of the success people have been achieving with this process since the
earliest times, may have to to with quantum physics. I say "may" because we
don't really know. This is cutting edge stuff and the scientific jury is
still out. What we do know for certain is at the smallest subatomic level,
what scientists call the Planck scale, particles of subatomic matter can be in
several places at the same time. Strange but true. And what is even stranger
is that they don't 'decide' which one of those several places to be until they are
observed, then they snap into place. Scientists call this the collapse of
the wave field. Ok, so very small particles are affected by observation
which leads us logically to suppose that the aspect of observation which is
controlling matter at the Planck level, is mind. So have scientists
finally proved mind over matter to be a fact? Well scientists tend to be a
very conservative bunch and, as I say, the jury is still out. To learn
more about this I strongly recommend you study some quantum physics. If that
sounds a bit heavy just start by watching the light-hearted DVD
What The Bleep Do We Know?
|
|
|
|
The second mechanism by which magic works is a lot more
mundane. Whether we say a prayer, cast a Wiccan spell or say a Law of Attraction
affirmation what we are really doing is stating an intention. Our own
subconscious mind will then take that intention and, just like an onboard
computer on an aeroplane, it will take us there. It will take us there by
helping us to see opportunities and by inspiring us to take right
action. This may involve hard work, magick is not a get rich quick
scheme for the lazy. |
|
|
|
But that's not magic you
say, that's psychology. My friend, magic has always just been psychology.
Magic is the earliest form of applied, practical psychology. Witches, and
before them Druids, and before them who knows who, were the earliest
physiologists, long before Freud and his palls reinvented the wheel and made it
all 'respectable'. We can be or do or have whatever we want.
We just need to believe we can, to give ourselves permission. Society has
brainwashed us since birth to believe we can't. So all the wand waving and
other paraphernalia of the occultist are just psychological tricks (very
powerful tricks mind you, don't underestimate them) to make us
believe we can. And when we believe we can, we give ourselves permission
and we can. We always could, we just needed reminding. |
|
|
|
At the time of writing, everybody is raving about the hit DVD
"The
Secret". Get a copy, watch it, its brilliant! People say there
is nothing new in it. They say it just teaches the Law of Attraction which
has been known and practiced in a myriad of different forms for many thousands
of years. All true but
The Secret does one very special thing. It peels away all the mystery, all
the occult overtones, and presents the Law of Attraction in a very clean,
modern, no frills way. You don't need to wear special robes, burn incense,
light candles, wave wands. You just see it done and FEEL it done, and it
is. Feeling it done is the key and Wicca has some very powerful techniques
for getting into the feelings. Personally I enjoy the drama of
ritual, and I get a great deal from it spiritually and
emotionally, so don't knock the wand waving, but don't get it
out of proportion either. |
|
|
|
Of course advanced Wiccans and other occultists have always know that you just see it done and FEEL it done, and it is but now you know it
too. This knowledge has been hidden ('occult' simply means 'hidden') for
far too long. Along the timeline great people have come forward to give
the Law of Attraction back to the people. Great figures like the Buddha,
Jesus, K'ung-fu-tzu (Confucius) and many others tried to make this stuff plain
knowledge. But the rich and powerful institutions of the world haven't
wanted
you to have this knowledge. They want to keep it to themselves, secret,
hidden, occult. Remember what we said about relative wealth? The relatively
wealthy always need to have an underclass of cheap labour to work
their land, and more recently their factories. So they frightened people by saying that
magic was evil, the work of the Devil (which they conveniently invented for the
purpose). When that didn't work they resorted to torture and mass murder,
remember the Burning Times, the inquisition? How could people have ever
been so cruel, so wicked? |
|
|
|
Well today, burning witches is no longer politically correct
thank goodness, so there is a new tactic, debunking. They want you to
believe that its all superstition, that there never were any real witches, that
magic is for children. Look at the way the subject is dealt with in
children's fiction. Well I can assure you that magic is very real and that
witches are very real, as real today as they have ever been. But you don't
have to spend years studying witchcraft or Wicca in order to master the Law of
Attraction. Personally I love Wicca. It is a very powerful system for
getting what you want and for self transformation. As I said, you
just see it done and FEEL it done, and it. The problem with
learning The law Of Attraction on its own is that it tends to be a cold,
intellectual process. It offers few if any tools for really
feeling the feelings. Without the feelings, the emotion, the Law
of Attraction is just wishful thinking. |
|
|
|
That's where Wicca comes in. Learning Wicca will
give you a lot of very powerful tools to help you make the Law of Attraction
work better and faster by helping you to get really worked up about what it is
you are aiming to achieve.
As Napoleon Hill said in
Think and Grow Rich,
"You may as well know, right here, that you can never have riches in
great quantities, UNLESS you can work yourself into a white heat of
DESIRE for money, and actually BELIEVE you will
possess it." Whether you are working for money, or love or
healing, or spiritual growth the same principle applies. Wicca offers you a powerful
toolbox to help you generate that "white heat of desire". |
|
|
|
There are a lot of books on the
market at the moment claiming to teach people how to perform magic without
all the "silly old mumbo jumbo". The problem with this approach is that
most students need to learn the mumbo jumbo; all the wand waving stuff; at
least in the beginning. For most aspiring occultists it is absolutely
essential for success. Magic is performed by the mind and the mumbo
jumbo is a trick we use to give ourselves permission to apply its
powers. |
|
|
|
When an experienced
occultist wants to get something done, he or she just sees and feels the thing
complete and finished in his mind, and it is so. When you write a letter
you just get out a piece of plain paper and start writing, but when you
were a child you had to learn to write using specially ruled paper to
teach you the proportions of the letters. It was the same for the Witch or
Occultist. In the beginning he had to learn all the mumbo jumbo just as
you will learn it in this course. In this course we are not going to cut
any corners. We are going to teach you properly, so that you can enjoy
real results. |
|
|
|
During the next few weeks and months you will learn
to perform the rituals with all the wands, ritual swords, incense,
coloured candles; in fact the whole paraphernalia that is necessary to
persuade our minds to do the magic for us. After a (long?) while you
will progress to the second stage of your training and learn to do all the
above entirely in your own head but that is really beyond the scope of
this course. |
|
|
|
Some time later some of you will,
through much practice, move on to stage three, just see the thing done and
it is. Some students progress to this stage easily and naturally, while
others will never reach that stage in this lifetime. It really doesn't
matter. You will start to see changes occurring in your life from the time
you perform your very first Craft Ritual. Just let yourself progress at
your own pace and through this primitive power you really can have
everything you want in life. |
|
|
|
Some students ask "isn't this
primitive power dangerous? Isn't that why more modern religions call it
evil?" |
|
|
|
NO! It is no more evil or dangerous than electricity. If
handled without proper training it can be very dangerous! Through this
course you will receive the proper training. When you have mastered these
lessons you will no more wish to live without the power than you would
wish to live without electricity. |

DIFFERENT PATHS |
|
|
|
There are many different types of Pagan
living around the world. In the Southern hemisphere there are Australian
Aborigines, South American Indians, and a handful of African tribes still
following their old traditions. In the Northern hemisphere Native North Americans still follow their traditional Shamanistic religion. There has
also been much interest in the way of the shaman by modern western peoples
worldwide and we shall be devoting a future monograph to the study of
Shamanism and the Vision Quest. As well as shamanism there are three other
forms of Paganism which are still very popular among modern
westerners. |
|
|
|
ASATRU (also called Odinism) is the worship of the Norse gods and goddesses.
This very powerful form of pagan worship still carries the energies that
made the Vikings strong. This tradition has a very direct form of
divination (fortune telling) called the Runes. Runes work a bit like Tarot
cards but are based on small pieces of wood or stone engraved with letters
of the old Nordic alphabet. There is also a very powerful form of magic
where the runes are deliberately carved to convey the outcome you want.
And it works! We shall be dealing in depth with Runic divination and magic
later in this course. |
|
|
|
There is currently a strong revival of the
DRUID tradition. The Druids were originally the intellectual caste,
including priests and judges, of the Celtic
peoples. Modern Druids follow the same seasonal ritual calendar that we do
although the old Druids only had four sabbats as opposed to our
eight. They know
much of Earth & Natural Magic. Trees are their special
interest. Druidism is our own native shamanistic tradition. |
|
|
|
The other main Pagan tradition practiced in modern
society is WICCA. Wicca has also been called Witchcraft and the Old
Religion. Personally I do not like the word "witchcraft" because it is far
too general and includes a huge range of quite different
practices from all over the world. The word "Wicca" is a shortened form of the Old English "Wiccacraeft".
It is not clear when the actual word "Wicca" was first used.
Some claim it is no older than the 20th century revival movement
and as I don't know for certain, I shall not comment further.
However the roots of the religion we now call Wicca clearly go back further than anybody knows,
and probably grew out of
Druidism, the religion of the Celts. Clearly witches existed alongside the
Druids but that was not Wicca as we know it now. |
|
|
|
When the Saxons invaded Britain they brought
with them their own brand of witchcraft and the origin of the
religion we now call Wicca was probably a syntheses of Celtic
Witchcraft, Druidism and Saxon Witchcraft. Remember that this was not a
swift invasion. It took the Saxons hundreds of years to slowly
wear down the Celtic warriors and gradually push west across the country.
During this time there would have been much mixing of the two magical
traditions. As both were
oral rather than written traditions it is impossible to know for certain.
Also as the two traditions have such similar beliefs the divisions may be
quite arbitrary. Wicca is an integral part of the Western Pagan
Tradition. Over the centuries it has spread all around Europe, Australia
and America as well as many other parts of the globe. |
|
|
|
Both our
indigenous form of witchcraft
& Druidism were heavily persecuted by the Romans as they marched
northward through Europe. The Druids were treated extremely harshly, in
fact no Druid was permitted to live! As a result their tradition was
almost totally wiped out. Modern day Druids follow a totally reconstructed
path, based of the flimsiest traces of evidence but a lot of intuition.
I have heard it argued that through reincarnation, much of what
people think they are reinventing, they may actually be
remembering. |
|
|
|
Witches, on the
other hand, fared somewhat better. For centuries we were driven underground but never
completely destroyed. Covens have always existed, worshipping the old gods
and goddesses in secret. It is true that modern Wicca is also the result
of a revival movement, and that much of what we know or believe of our
past comes from non-traditional sources. But we have always had a thin
thread of continuity from earlier times. |
|
|
|
Just as Wicca is one of
many forms of Paganism, so there are different paths within Wicca. Groups
that claim to trace a direct, unbroken line back to ancient times are known as
"Traditional" or "Hereditary". Traditional groups still tend to be
extremely secretive and do not usually recognise other Wiccan paths.
|
|
|
|
Back in the 1950's one man who claimed to have studied in a
Traditional coven went public, writing two very open, fictional, books
(Modern Witchcraft, Rider, London, 1954 and
Witchcraft Today, Rider,
London, 1957). He later published his
Book of Shadows in collaboration
with his High Priestess, Doreen Valiente. His name was
Gerald Gardner and covens that follow
the revivalist movement he started call themselves "Gardnerian".
If you would like to read more about this fascinating character we
recommend http://www.geraldgardner.com
.
Doreen Valiente was his High Priestess and after he died she
worked with other High Priests who have all helped to move our
understanding forward. We owe these pioneers much respect
and admiration, they helped us move out of a truly dark age of
ignorance and misinformation about Wicca. As time goes on and
more and more Wiccans are practicing, our knowledge of what
works and what does not work evolves. There is nothing
disrespectful about saying "thank you Gerald and Doreen for
opening the door, and as we walk through it and begin to dwell
on the other side, vistas are opening up to us of which you
could never have imagined".
|
|
|
|
In
the 1960's Alex Saunders and his wife Maxine broke away from their
Gardnerian coven surrounded by much controversy and bad feeling. The
result of this split was the Alexandrian tradition, with its more
elaborate forms of ritual.
Some of the other paths include Algard,
Celtic, Dianic, Feminist, Frost Wicca, Hasidic, Seax Wicca and
Wholistic Wicca. There are
other forms too, mostly in the United States where all religious groups
can register as a "church" and receive tax advantages. This has led to
much more openness than in Europe. It is not important to try to
learn all the different forms of Wicca, but just to be aware they exist.
The form of Paganism taught in this course is predominantly,
although not exclusively, Wiccan. As I said to you before, what I teach is
what I personally believe and have personally experienced. Other
teachers will teach you differently. Personally I tend to steer away from
my modern Alexandrian roots because I feel that it owes too much to the
ritual magic of Aleister Crowley, the O.T.O. and the Golden Dawn, while
ignoring the older forms on the grounds that they are too bawdy and pagan.
Well we are Pagans aren't we?
I am British and I like to worship
the old British Gods and Goddesses. However many Wiccans prefer the deities
from Greece and the other Mediterranean countries so you will receive a
thorough grounding in those too.
As you follow this course you will
be a Pagan first and a Wiccan second. In this course you will learn far
less of the Victorian ritual magicians and much, much more of the world's
ancient Pagan heritage. As far as possible we teach the Old Ways. One big
difference is in the attitude to the sexes. Some Wiccan paths put the
female principle above the male. I feel more comfortable treating them both as entirely equal in
all ways. Different of course, but equal. This also means the God is equal
to the Goddess and vice versa. You will find no sexism in this course.
Paganism
is a path for individualists, even peaceful anarchists. We can not be
restrained by the tight straitjacket of rules and dogma. Basically we are
rebels or at least free thinkers. In Wicca and in Paganism generally THERE
IS NO DOGMA! Reality is too complex to be confined in a straitjacket of
simplistic rules and dogma. All paths lead to the centre.
There
are as many forms of Wicca as there are Wiccans and the various
groupings are fairly arbitrary. We each know from experience that our path
works. And we know from other Wiccans that their paths work
too!
What is Wicca? (Excerpt from The US Army Chaplain's
Handbook)
Historical Origin:
Wicca is a reconstruction of the Nature worship of tribal
Europe, strongly influenced by the living Nature worship traditions of
tribal peoples in other parts of the world. The works of such early
twentieth century writers as Margaret Murray, Robert Graves and Gerald B.
Gardner began the renewal of interest in the Old Religion.
After
the repeal of the anti-Witchcraft laws in Britain in 1951, Gardner
publicly declared himself a Witch and began to gather a group of students
and worshipers. In 1962, two of his students, Raymond and Rosemary
Buckland (religious names: Lady Rowen and Robat), emigrated to the United
States and began teaching Gardnerian Witchcraft here. At the same time,
other groups of people came interested through reading books by Gardner
and others.
Many covens were spontaneously formed, using rituals
created from a combination of research and individual inspiration. These
self-created covens are today regarded as just as valid as those who can
trace a "lineage" of teaching back to England. In 1975, a very diverse
group of covens who wanted to secure protections and benefits of church
status formed Covenant of the Goddess (CoG), which is incorporated in the
state of California and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. CoG
does not represent all, or even a majority of Wiccans. A coven or an
individual need not be affiliated with CoG in order to validly practice
the religion. But CoG is the largest single public Wiccan organization,
and it is cross-Traditional (i.e. non-denominational).
Basic Beliefs:
Wiccans worship the sacred as immanent
in Nature, often personified as Mother Earth and Father Sky. As
polytheists, they may use many other names for Deity. Individuals will
often choose Goddesses or Gods from any of the world's pantheons whose
stories are particularly inspiring and use those Deities as a focus for
personal devotions. Similarly, covens will use particular Deity names as a
group focus, and these are often held secret by the groups. It is very
important to be aware that Wiccans DO NOT in any way worship or believe in
"Satan," "the Devil," or any similar entities. They point out that "Satan"
is a symbol of rebellion against and inversion of the Christian and Jewish
traditions.
Wiccans do not revile the Bible. They simply regard it
as one among many of the world's mythic systems, less applicable than some
to their core values, but still deserving just as much respect as any of
the others. Most Wiccan groups also practice magic, by which they mean the
direction and use of "psychic energy," those natural but invisible forces
which surround all living things. Some members spell the word "magick," to
distinguish it from sleight of hand entertainments.
Wiccans employ
such means as dance, chant, creative visualization and hypnosis to focus
and direct psychic energy for the purpose of healing, protecting and
aiding members in various endeavors. Such assistance is also extended to
non-members upon request.
Many, but not all, Wiccans believe in
reincarnation. Some take this as a literal description of what happens to
people when they die. For others, it is a symbolic model that helps them
deal with the cycles and changes within this life. Neither Reincarnation
nor any other literal belief can be used as a test of an individual's
validity as a member of the Old Religion. Most groups have a handwritten
collection of rituals and lore, known as a Book of Shadows. Part of the
religious education of a new member will be to hand copy this book for him
or herself. Over the years, as inspiration provides, new material will be
added. Normally, access to these books is limited to initiated members of
the religion.
Practices
And Behavioural Standards:
The core ethical statement of Wicca, called the "Wiccan
Rede" states "an it harm none, do what you will." The rede fulfills the
same function as does the "Golden Rule" for Jews and Christians; all other
ethical teachings are considered to be elaborations and applications of
the Rede. It is a statement of situational ethics, emphasizing at once the
individual's responsibility to avoid harm to others and the widest range
of personal autonomy in "victimless" activities.
Wicca has been
described as having a "high-choice" ethic. Because of the basic Nature
orientation of the religion, many Wiccans will regard all living things as
sacred, and show a special concern for ecological issues. For this reason,
individual conscience will lead some to take a pacifist position. Some are
vegetarians. Others will feel that, as Nature's way includes self-defense,
they should participate in wars that they conscientiously consider to be
just.
The religion does not dictate either position, but requires
each member to thoughtfully and meditatively examine her or his own
conscience and to live by it. Social forces generally do not yet allow
Witches to publicly declare their religious faith without fear of loss of
job, child custody challenges, ridicule, etc. Prejudice against Wiccans is
the result of public confusion between Witchcraft and Satanism. Wiccans in
the military, especially those who may be posted in countries perceived to
be particularly intolerant, will often have their dogtags read "No
Religious Preference."
Concealment is a Wiccan defense against
persecution, so non-denominational dogtags should not contravene a
member's request for religious services.
Wiccans celebrate eight
festivals, called "Sabbats," as a means of attunement to the seasonal
rhythms of Nature. These are:
January 31* [Imbolg, Oimelc,
Brigit, or February Eve], March 21 [Spring Equinox or Ostara], April
30 [Beltane or May Eve], June 22 [Summer
Solstice, Midsummer or Litha], July 31 [Lughnasadh, Lunasa or Lammas], September 21 [Autumn
Equinox, Harvest, Mabon], October 31 [Samhain, Sowyn or All Hollows], December
21 [Yule or Winter Solstice].
Some groups find meetings within a few days of
those dates to be acceptable, others require the precise date. In
addition, most groups will meet for worship at each Full Moon, and many
will also meet on the New Moon. Meetings for religious study will often be
scheduled at any time convenient to the members, and rituals can be
scheduled whenever there is a need (i.e. for a healing). Ritual jewellery is
particularly important to many Wiccans.
May the Old Gods and Goddesses
within guide you in your studies and in your life. Blessed
be!
Footnote: *Imbolg is actually held on February 2nd.
by most Wiccans and other Pagans.

Reading.
|
While
not essential, reading as much as possible from different
authors will improve the breadth and depth of your
understanding. Books are a great way to learn more about

MONOGRAPH ONE - The Meditative Ritual
Go alone into some natural place where you feel good. It may be a
high mountain top or a particularly lonely part of the coast. It could be
in a dense wood or a piece of desolate moorland. If possible try to go
when the weather is especially alive but do not delay the ritual waiting
for the weather. Nearly everybody can find somewhere suitable within a
short distance from their home. If you really cannot get to such a place
go into a quiet, darkened room, where you will not be disturbed and
imaging you are in such a place.
Sit or stand quietly and just feel
the energies of the place. Then try to feel the way a primitive person
would have felt in the same place. Try to feel his / her feelings of awe,
or even of fear. Remember, he could not rationalise his feelings as you
can, so just feel the raw emotions he would have felt.
At this
stage of your training, your meditations should last about five or ten
minutes, fifteen tops! Whatever feels comfortable to you. Never force
yourself, just increase the time gradually as you get more experienced.
Its best to delay eating or sex until after your meditation. On no account
should you attempt fasting at this stage of the course.
Remember,
these exercises are supposed to be FUN!
